Step Into The Water

Joshua 3:3,4" As soon as you see the ark of the covenant of the Lord your God being carried by the Levitical priests, (1) then you shall set out from your place and follow it. Yet there shall be a distance between you and it, about 2,000 cubits in length. (2) Do not come near it, in order that you may know the way you shall go, (3) for you have not passed this way before."

The ark was where the Spirit of the Lord was hovering, Joshua is telling them to 1)come out from your place (your ways, your thoughts, your intentions, your traditions, your experiences) and follow the Spirit (2) stay behind the ark, do not stand near it, stay behind and let the Spirit lead. Stay behind it and let the Spirit prepare the way. Let the Spirit cut out the path so it’s clear for you to walk through. (3) for you have not walked this way before. The Lord knows where we are. He also knows where He wants to take us. He knows we haven’t walked this way before, But follow the guidance of the Spirit.

Hebrews 12:2 says to look unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith. When I looked up that scripture, there was a reference to how we use blinders for horses. So they can look straight ahead and not be distracted by what’s going on around them. I’m not saying be stupid, by all means use wisdom. But Focus on Jesus, hear the Spirit and follow it. Do not be distracted by what is going on. God knows exactly where we are and what we are facing. Follow Him. I don’t know what that looks like for you, but the Holy Spirit does. Follow Him.

The story goes on to command the Israelites to place their feet in the water and carry the ark through the Jordan. Can you imagine being those priests? The banks of the river Jordan were overflowing at this time. (Joshua 3:15) they had what appeared to be an impossible situation. A deep river(one that ranges from 50 feet deep in some places to 200 feet in others) that is now deeper because it is flooded. They were passing through on ground that no one had ever walked before. That’s where we are today. Gods word to us today is to come out from doing things our own way and follow the leading of His Spirit. Follow behind the Spirit, letting Him navigate. Don’t jump ahead, He knows where we are. He is calling us into uncharted waters. He is asking us to trust in Him. Joshua did. The priests picked up the ark of the covenant and stepped into the flooded waters of the Jordan River and the waters heaped up and rolled back.(Joshua 3:16) Following the Spirit will have a wide spread impact. As we step out in faith to do whatever He is asking of us in this time, it will affect those around us. Be bold. Be courageous. When you find yourself feeling uncertain, step out in faith and do whatever He is asking you to do anyway….if you are afraid, do it afraid, just do it. As you step out in faith, fear will vanish. I know God has mighty things in store and we need to step out in faith in to see them.

When the priests stepped into the water, the water rolled back, and they walked through on dry ground. If the priests had never stepped into the water of river, they would have never seen their miracle. Step into the water today!!
