The Jewish new year, 5786 has started. What does that mean prophetically?
The Meaning of Vav: God's Symbol of Connection
What is Vav?
Hebrew letter: ו (Vav)
Numeric value: 6
Pictograph meaning: A hook, peg, or nail—something that joins or secures two things together
Function in Hebrew: Often used as the word "and", connecting one phrase or idea to another
The Spiritual Truth
God is a God of connection, not separation.
The vav shows His desire to bring unity—heaven with earth, God with man, spirit with flesh. This isn't coincidental. This letter carries covenant language.
The Number 6: The Human Story
Man was created on the sixth day (Genesis 1:26–31).
The number 6 represents man, work, and earthly completeness. It shows our human side—needing God's completion and connection.
The Core Insight
Without the "hook" of God's Spirit, man's work remains incomplete. We were created to be connected to our Creator.
We cannot function in our design without that vital connection. We are, by design, beings made for relationship with the Divine.
The Nail of Connection: The Cross
The ancient vav looked like a nail or peg.
On the Cross, Jesus became our Vav—the nail that joined heaven and earth. Through His pierced hands, He reconciled us to God (Colossians 1:20).
More Than Pain
The nails that held Him to the cross symbolized more than pain. They represented connection, restoration, and love's unbreakable bond.
This is the deepest mystery of redemption: the instrument of torture became the instrument of union. The nails that seemed to separate—earth from heaven, flesh from Spirit, man from God—actually accomplished the ultimate joining.
The "And" of God's Promises
In Hebrew, vav at the beginning of a word means "and"—it continues the story.
God's story with us always includes a vav.
This Is How God Speaks Over Your Life
"You've failed… and I forgive you." "You are weak… and My strength is made perfect." "You are human… and I dwell in you."
The vav reminds us that God's story is never finished at the period—He always adds an "and."
Your story doesn't end with your mistakes, your weakness, or your limitations. There's always more. There's always redemption, grace, presence.
Faith as the Vav: The Connector
"Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen." — Hebrews 11:1
Faith is the connector between what God has promised and what we experience. It gives substance to hope and evidence to the unseen.
Faith is the spiritual tent peg that anchors our hope firmly into God's Word, even when the winds of life blow hard.
When everything shakes—circumstances, health, security—faith is what keeps you rooted. Faith doesn't deny the storm. Faith simply reminds you that you're anchored to something unmovable.
The Tent Peg and Jael: Destroying Stinkin' Thinkin'
When teaching on Vav, we cannot ignore the tent peg—and we cannot talk about tent pegs without mentioning Jael (Judges 4).
The Setup
Jael was a Kenite woman, part of a nomadic tribe. She was the wife of Heber, who had moved his family closer to a fortified city, likely hoping to protect them from Sisera's army—the cruel commander of Israel's enemies.
As was her culture, Jael was the builder of the tent. She knew the tools, the weight of the hammer, and the steadiness required to drive a peg deep into the earth.
The Moment
When Sisera fled from battle, exhausted and defeated, he came to Jael's tent. She welcomed him, gave him milk, and a place to rest.
But when he fell asleep, Jael took a tent peg—a vav—and drove it through his temple, pinning him to the ground.
The Revelation
When I asked the Lord, "Why not the heart?" He replied:
"Because it was his thinking that needed to be destroyed."
This Is the Year for Destroying Wrong Thoughts
This is the year for the destruction of stinkin' thinkin'.
God is raising up Jaels—those who will take the vav, the nail, and drive it through wrong mindsets that oppose His truth. The peg that once secured a tent will now secure victory.
What Does This Mean?
Just as Jael's hand destroyed Sisera's head, faith and truth will destroy the enemy's lies that live in our thoughts.
You may have been entertained thoughts of:
Inadequacy
Unworthiness
Limitation
Defeat
Separation from God
2025 is the year to drive the vav—the nail of truth—through those strongholds. Not gently. Not tentatively. But with the steady, bold confidence of someone who knows the weight of the hammer and the power of what she wields.
The Prophetic Word for 5786
The vav is a year of joining what was separated.
It's a year of:
Connection over isolation
"And" stories over finished defeat
Faith as an anchor over circumstantial despair
Truth driving out lies from the temple of your mind
God is not just healing you this year. He's connecting you. He's completing the story. He's rooting you deep.
Prayer
Lord, thank You for being our connection—our Vav. Thank You for the nails that joined heaven and earth and drew us close to You.
Help us to anchor our faith like Jael drove her tent peg—steady, bold, and unshakable. Destroy every wrong thought that rises against Your truth, and let us live connected to heaven's reality.
In Jesus' name, Amen.
What story will you write this year with your vav?
